Rome Day 6
We had thought about renting a couple of Mopeds and
seeing Rome on a moped. We woke up and got two 125cc mopeds that really
flew. This was, without a doubt, a highlight of the trip. Cassidy
and I rented the mopeds on the one day of the year that Rome was nearly
evacuated because of the summer holiday. We would could not have wished
for a better situation.
Cass and I drove around Rome from about noon until three. We drove past
the Coliseum, past the Vatican, the Forum. The fact that our feet were
dead from the day before made the trip that much nicer.
At 3:00, we caught up with Mr. Lundin and the three of us
rode all over Rome. He took us to see the Temple of Vesta on the way down
to the Via Appia. .
After we drove through the middle of Rome, we took off down south of Rome, driving
next to the old Via Appia. We rode past the Forum and the Circus Maximus.
The smart guy that I am, I started to take pictures while I was riding.
It turned out for some great pictures but may not have been the smartest thing.
I'm still alive.

Mr. Lundin would stop every five minutes or so and fill us in on some Roman history. We stopped at an old castle that's dated in the first century. Every three miles or so down the Via Appia there would be small vineyards that doubled as restaurants that would serve wine strait out of the barrel.
That night we went out to dinner with some friends of the
Lundins' from Piedmont. They had two girls, Mikka who was at Oberlin and
Maggie who was in high school. After
dinner, the three of us went to the Campo Novella to see what was going on.
After some encouragement from some American girls that we met there, we went
into a sketchy Italian bar and started to dance. We started to dance and
then the sketchy Italian men followed suite. As questionable as the scene
was, I'm glad we did it.
