Northern Italy Day 1
We got to Courmayeur the night before and stayed a place
where the Lundin's stay every time they visit the mountains. This town
is right out of movie that takes place in the Swiss Alps. The houses all
have slate rock roofs (called lose, pronounced LO-sae) with carved wood
siding. The small town is in the valley surrounded by enormous mountains
all over. The view is spectacular.
The three of us set out in the morning with a small day pack
and drove out along the valley where a friend of the Lundin's had a
place and where we could park the car to start hiking. We hiked
for about 45 minutes uphill, (which is the most I've ever hiked) and
reached a mid-mountain stop which had a beautiful view.
This is a picture of Cassidy and Mr. Lundin overlooking the valley
mid-mountain rest stop.
After the 2 minute break, we decided
that we would head up the mountain to the other side where we would eventually
reach Switzerland. This will never be forgotten. The hike consisted
of a small beaten trail that would
sometimes
run up right against a drop of thousands of feet.
