ROME days 1-3
August 9-10 Trip to Rome
Turns out that my plane sat on the ground for two hours while we sat out a storm that was holding all flights on the ground. I was psyched to find that there was no one sitting next to me and that there was in fact a socket in which I could plug my computer. The flight is nine hours long, I will hopefully sleep a couple of hours. . . because the beer is free. I bought a duty free men's sampler of polo cologne. . .because I already stink. I spoke with a nice flight attendant who thought I should take the foreign service exam and get into the CIA after I finish with this trip. We'll see.
Rome Day 2
I arrived at the airport at 11:30am and was eager to get to the Lundin's. Unfortunately, the train ride to Rome from the airport had a poor air-conditioning unit and I sweat the entire way. (I later found that the AC worked fine. The Italians apparently enjoy sweating in 78 degree "room temperature.") The view on the train ride was great as we rode past old country villages that came right out of a scene from a wine bottle label. However, I was so tired, and hot, that I fell asleep. I only slept for about two hours on the plane so when I got to the Lundin's, I fell asleep at about 9 o'clock.
During the day, we met two girls from SMU, Ava and Ashley,
and decided that we would meet up at an American Bar called the Drunken
Ship. We ended up going there and really had a terrific time. We
also met a kid from Bolivia named Moses who looked just like Mike Piazza.
We met three other girls from California and the seven of us (including two
guys, Dustin and Brad) went to a small bar called insane and danced until 4 in the
morning. It was 11 EST which is the only reason I was able to stay
up. We had a great time and I cannot believe that I didn't bring my
camera. . .never again.
Rome Day 3
Cass and I slept to about 1 and got out the door at about
3 to go to lunch with the Lundin's. We went to a very nice place and had
some of the best watermelon that I've ever had. After lunch, the two of us
went to the Castel Santangelo and then walked over to St. Peters. The two
are literally a 2 minute walk away. This is a view from the Castel
Santangelo. St. Peter's is the large building down the road on the
right.

(The Lundin's live at the end of the bridge on the on the right. St.
Peters is only a block away)
This is the Castel and a some pictures from there. (click all pictures to see with greater clarity)
We then walked over to St. Peter's Basilica, threw on our convertible pants (to get in) and took some more pictures.
