Mara and I met in Tokyo and jumped onto a flight that would
take us to Beijing, China. My trip was not originally scheduled for Beijing
but I figured that I wouldn't be back to this part of the world for quite some
time. Mara was up for it so we found a cheap flight from Tokyo to Beijing
and back. It was set! On top of that, I had a family friend who
was in Beijing who might be able to show us around.
We got into Beijing at night, grabbed our baggage
and continued onto the arrivals floor. As we passed customs, we looked
up to see a sea of Chinese, a literal sea of Orientals as my grandmother would
put it. In the sea was a round-eyed white man standing and hopefully waiting
for us. Yes, it was Keefer!
Keefer met us at the airport which saved us because very few
people spoke English. We asked Keefer if he spoke Chinese and he said
"a little." Well, we soon found that he speaks
Chinese better than the Chinese.
Keefer helped us out finding hotel and we hit the sack for the night. We would meet up with him the next morning to take a little walk around Beijing.
