John and I set out to challenge the best
golfers in the world to a test of strength, intelligence and outright
toughness. We felt that a game of golf would be the best determiner. John
and I met up with Irish Mark and English Craig and set the rules. There
would be no biting, spitting or winter rules. On top of that, if the word
"color" was used at any time of the day, it would be assumed that it
was not spelled with a "u" (colour)
We received our free hats, (Team USA with the electric blue,
Team Europe with the neon pink) bought some used Spalding X-outs, and took the
course.
John and I started off with two solid drives. The fairway was a solid
25 yards wide and we showed the Europeans what we were capable of. We
never backed down.
The course was at the highest point in Bondi Beach.
From up above on one side, you could see all of Bondi Beach, on the other side
were cliffs that lead down to the ocean. It was gorgeous.
Needless to say, Team USA pulled it off in the end on the 9th hole. I sank my short five footer to put the U.S. within position to win. In American style, before the Irishman had a chance to sink his own 10 footer, Team USA, (Ryan and John) pounced on the green in joy. With a 10 footer to keep his team in the game, the Irishman had a tough time putting with his hands around his throat. And so, Team USA triumphed, overcoming the foreigners.
